This week, Kindergarteners are reading:
First graders are reading books by David Shannon like No David! and David Goes to School. Last week, everybody wrote their own page for our book, No David! Don’t Wreck the Library! This week, we made a video of the book. Each student is reading their own page. Students would love to see your comments below!
“A few years ago, my mother sent me a book I made when I was a little boy. It was called No, David, and it was illustrated with drawings of David doing all sorts of things he wasn’t supposed to do. The text consisted entirely of the words “no” and “David.” (They were the only words I knew how to spell.) I thought it would be fun to do a remake celebrating those familiar variations of the universal “no” that we all hear while growing. Of course, “yes” is a wonderful word . . . but “yes” doesn’t keep crayon off the living room wall.” — David Shannon
4th & 5th graders are wrapping up their SS projects–the fair is Friday, Nov. 18th! Join us in the gym to see their hard work!
One of the most popular books at EES right now is Darth Paper, the sequel to Origami Yoda. Some 5th graders even made life-sized origami Star Wars characters for our storybook character parade last week! Want to fold your own Darth Paper? Here’s a video of the author, Tom Angelberger, explaining how to do it (It’s on youtube, so you’ll have to open it at home). We also have books explaining how to fold other origami shapes in the 740s in our library–check them out!
What would happen if David from No David! came to our library? Find out next week when the first graders, who are writing their own book, publish their work! Check back next week to see their ideas!
